Lift type: | Rope-driven MRL elevators up to 2.5 m/s |
The elevators serve as a short yet significant link between the parking garage levels and the city. Airy, transparent, and with a minimalist appearance — this was the design brief for the three elevator systems at Schlossberg Thun, which have served as the vertical backbone of the parking facility since October 2018. The glazed fronts and doors help visitors orient themselves and create a sense of security. The two side-mounted duplex systems, with their opposing cabin doors, provide access to the eight parking levels arranged in a split-level layout, bridging the nearly 11-meter height difference to Burgstrasse. The two cabins, each with a load capacity of 800 kg (10 persons), are symmetrically positioned within the shaft. The guide rails and counterweights are placed on the outer sides of the shaft, enhancing the desired transparency. The two inner cabin walls are fully glazed, making the ride itself a visual experience — and the passing of the second cabin even evokes a hint of a subway journey. The third and largest elevator, with a capacity of 1450 kg (19 persons), is the central element of the vertical connection. It travels approximately 32 meters up to the top of Schlossberg. Between level 0 and the Schlossberg exit, the height difference is about 21 meters, which required the installation of an emergency evacuation door halfway up. The long shaft carved through the hill is highlighted by a glazed skylight above the shaft head. A circular glass panel in the cabin ceiling offers an upward view into the shaft. It’s less about the panorama — and more about the perspective.
