Since the 12th century, Rapperswil Castle has shaped the skyline of the town on the shores of Lake Zurich. This listed historic landmark combines 900 years of history with a new purpose as an exhibition and event venue.

To integrate the historic building fabric with its new function, Park Architekten Zurich designed a visually striking staircase featuring two parallel elevator systems. One of these is an inclined elevator. By following the building's geometry, the inclined elevator optimises vertical circulation while emphasising the impressive height of the structure. At the same time, both elevators blend discreetly into the historic architecture.

This project demonstrates how contemporary mobility solutions can be harmoniously integrated into a protected historic building.
